Pattensen heralds Advent time - second part of the X³-MAS Concert Series
Last night Woody's Sound was a guest in the St. Gertrud church for the Christmas concert of the Luhetal Choir, organized by the director Jutta Heger. The evening was as colorful and varied as the age range of the artists and listeners. The concert took place for the 13th time and Woody's Sound was there for the third time.
There was a constant change between songs from the Luhetal Choir, flute pieces of the ensemble of "Lisa Wulfes-Lange" from the music school Lüneburg and of course pieces from Woody's Sound. After the great concert with the "Jagdhornbläser", we also wanted to inspire with some songs this evening. Again, "Jesus Christ Superstar" made the beginning and paved the way for the following "Einsamer Hirte" with his "Fanfare". Imposing and calm, versatility should be shown.
The second part of Woody's Sound was more "pop" with the ballad "Wind Of Change" by the Scorpions. The song is beautifully quietly ushered in by the flutes and ended later. After the "Pop" the "Classic" followed with "Ode to Joy" and the trumpets showed their best.
Toward the end of the concert we had a third turn. With "Xerxis, Largo", also a classic piece, we started very quiet. It was followed by the number "Freiheit". A very nice piece with solis by Martin Woodford on flugelhorn and Christian Stenz on piano. It's a goosebump moment when Martin moves through the church while playing. The conclusion was "An American Trilogy" in which the tensions of the orchestra were very nicely maxed out.
It was a nice round evening and we are looking forward to next saturday.
Magic in the church - first part of the X³-MAS Concert Series
The church was occupied to the last seat. However, this did not prevent some visitors from attending the concert while standing. During the evening a magic unfolded in the church. There were goosebumps moments and here and there tears to behold. The songs took on a "personal life" and unfolded in the great acoustics.
The "Jagdhornbläser" were a picture of unity when the instrument was set synchronously at the beginning of each piece. Impressive hunting horn sounds filled the church and the audience could picture the "hunt" in their heads. A big thank you again to the "Jagdhornbläser", especially Günther Härtel, for the great organization of the concert .
A special feature was the title "Freiheit". Christian Stenz on the piano and Martin Woodford on the flugelhorn shone as soloists here. Martin moved through the ranks while playing, so everyone could experience the beautiful sound very closely.
The setlist of the pieces left no wish unfulfilled, as evidenced by the standing applause and the trampling feet of the guests. There were then added additional encore and the first title (Jesus Christ Superstar) played again.
Thank you to Peter Mahnke for the beautiful pictures! 73 pictures... it was hard to sort them out...
The evening has heralded the advent season beautifully. We are looking forward to the next year!
Woody's Sound presents: X³-MAS Concert Series
The trip to England is behind us and the preparations to end the year with a musical spectacle are on the run. On 17.11. Woody's Sound starts to a weekend workshop to give the songs the finishing touches. After that:
- Designing and distributing posters - nobody should miss how, when, where something happens
- Hanging up the banners - it must be considered where ...
- Removing fingerprints from the instruments - it should shine and sparkle
- Preparing music sheets - and hope that there are no spontaneous changes
- Polishing shoes - when we play "up there" everyone sees the shoes!
- Ironing shirts - or you cheat and pull a jacket over it ...
- Men answer the important question: fly or tie?
- Women ask themselves the question: What do I wear?
- and until the concert day: PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE
This year, there is not "just" the Christmas concert. There is a whole X³MAS concert series. The beginning is the concert on 02.12. in the St. Marien church in Winsen with the "Jagdhornbläser". This year, after the success of last year, it starts for the second time and we are looking forward to the acoustics. On 08.12. we play for the first time in the church in Pattensen with the "Luhetal Choir". We are very curious! Both concerts have free admission.
On 16.12. is the day! The grand finale is the Christmas concert in the town hall in Winsen. Theme: 20 years of music school. From old to new we will play twenty titles for you. In between, of course, a few Christmas titles make an appearance. Tickets are available in advance in the following places:
- Stelle: Press Lünsmann and ABC bookstore
- Winsen/Luhe: Bookstore Decius and tourist information
- and of course at the school of music
While writing this text, I made my decision of what to wear (and I still have to iron it). Let's see how it looks with my teammates.
We look forward to seeing you at these three amazing concerts!
Woody's Sound on Tour in England
It is Thursday the 05.10. and it is quiet on the bus, quieter than on the way out. I look at the clock: 07:25 PM
We are on the way home, exhausted and tired, but very satisfied. Behind us lays a great week in England with many impressions. It was a nice mix of sightseeing, culture, music and community.
The beginning of the trip already offered a small highlight with the ferry crossing. At about 4:00 PM we arrived at the hotel and still had the possibility to do some errands in the city. Afterwards was time to rest, because the first full day in England with three appearances should be mastered.
In the morning, we were allowed to great the visitors of the service at the curch with music and some of them stayed longer and listened to us. Afterwards we went to a Sunday school to bring the first children the musical instruments closer. Martin explained in an exciting way, with a portion of English humor, the differences of the individual instruments, and the pupils were always able to try and get a sound out. After the "school hour" the insane view at the church was enjoyed before it went back to the hotel.
The next day was full of sightseeing. We visited an active coal mine. A small obstacle was to leave all the clocks, cameras, batteries and SMARTPHONES. We were offline for an hour ... The miners described the circumstances at that time so impressively that one got goose bumps. Then it was time to warm up in the cafeteria and a small bus tour through the countryside of Wales. As in the past years our bus driver Klaus accompanies us these days about 3000km. He provides us with sausages, masters driving on the left side and jokes a lot.
The third day had the motto "Fighting day". Four performances had to be made on time. Everything has to work smoothly. On this day the group of musicians came together. The big ones helped the little ones and the young helped the old. It was built and dismantled in record time. In between, bright children's eyes shone when they got a sound from an instrument. In the end it was time to party when the students almost drowned us with their singing to "Dynamite" ... above all the headmaster himself. It also surprised us to hear that the children still speak about us months after our visit. That pleases the musicians heart. Also it was nice to see and hear where Martin grew up and what connects him with the individual places and schools. Thus his former music teacher visited the evening concert in the church, which had a very beautiful sound.
On the last day we visited the open-air museum "Black Country", which is devoted to the period of industrialization and coalmines.
In the meantime, the bus has calmed down. One part is sleeping, others are watching a movie and some people are thinking. We'll be back in two years.
