Despite the good work of the board members, there was a surprising change at the top. Gerd Trautvetter, from 2010 to 2012 second chairman and then first chairman of the orchestra and longtime treasurer Hans-Peter Jürs stated at the beginning of the election that they are no longer available for their posts. "We want to make way for the younger ones!", Explains the 79-year-old Hans-Peter Jürs his decision. From now on the orchestra club will be led by the first chairman Alexander Melchert, since 2008 secretary. Susanne Möller was confirmed as the second chairwoman. New Uschi Paddock were elected as treasurer and Lena Sendelbach as secretary. Britta Zimmermann and Leonie Bartsch were confirmed as assessors.

[...] With a big thank you to the departing board members Gerd Trautvetter and Hans-Peter Jürs, the orchestra went into the Easter holidays.

The winter break is over. The days are getting longer and we are warming up the instruments. Ok ... let's be honest ... they never got cold.

The new year started with a bang: Woody's Sound is the winner of this year's Summer of Culture Prize. The joy is huge and the preparations for September are in full swing. The motto: "Woody's Sound on Tour - Movement through Music"

The second bang lurked around the corner at the end of the year. Woody's Sound had a visit from the member of parliament Svenja Stadtler. She listened to a rehearsal and was very interested in the honorary offices and the structures in the club. Now we were invited to Berlin for three days, from July 3rd to July 5th! We'll keep you up to date!

Also applies the saying: After the Christmas Concert is before the Summer Concert.

The date, 24.06., has long been known and during the winter break Martin Woodford was busy writing notes. The direction of the concert is getting clear. We can not wait to give a closer look here soon. Who does not want to wait until 24.06., may listen to earlier performances.

  • The Swing Orchestra Stelle is the first on January 26th in the Kurhaus in Bad Bevensen.
  • Woody's Sound begins the season opener at the BIGS flea market on May 6th.
  • Just in Time starts later in the year (on June 16th), but is on international stage. There will be the annual performance at the German Championship Terrain CCI **** in Luhmühlen.

But we are not only musically at work. Also here on the website a lot is happening. For image materials, facts, etc., a press center is being created which will soon go online. In addition, the "News" section has been extended by a few functions. Take a look around.

As nice as it is to look into the future, it’s also nice to look back again to the wonderful christmas concert and a beautiful evening. Thanks a lot to Arwid for the photos.

The Cultural Summer Award is awarded annually and honors event ideas. This year's theme is "On the Move". The music of Woody's Sound has a lot to do with "movement". We want to bring this concept closer to people and will continue to introduce it in the near future. The appointment is 15.09.2018.

Just before Christmas, on 19.12., Woody's Sound played in front of the town hall pharmacy in Winsen/Luhe. Shoppers were tuned into Christmas carols for the upcoming holidays. For the necessary warmth provided hot fruit punch.

The year is coming to an end and the climax for Woody's Sound finally came last night. The Christmas concert could begin.

Right on time at 5 pm, the keyboard, bass, guitars and drums entered the stage to create an exciting atmosphere. With the whirl on the cymbal and the slipping of the plectrum on the guitar string it almost reminded of a thriller ... Thriller we had at the summer concert, now the Christmas concert was supposed to start. The almost 70 musicians entered the stage and played as the first title "Jesus Christ Superstar". A fiery song underlined with fanfares. Before the audience was greeted, Martin could not contain himself and shared his knowledge of the composer Andrew Lloyd Weber. The welcome was then taken over by the first chairman of Woody's Sound, Gerd Trautvetter, and told of the successful year and presented the Transplant Kids club, which we support with the proceeds of the concert. Deputy Chairwoman Sarah Jakob then reported on the great actions being taken with the children.

After that it should be Christmas. The title was followed by "In the blake mid-winter" and the "XMAS Medley". Of course, at this time Santa Claus and his angel came over and enjoyed the children in the hall.
The title "Xerxis Largo" by Händel was a classic piece in the series. Martin chatted about it and reported what work it was that this title now sounds like it does. After the first attempt, he wanted to make it disappear again. But the work was worth it. The first, somewhat "newer" title was "Wind Of Change" by the Scorpions. But actually it must already belong to the older titles, since the small flutes in the rehearsals did not know the world famous whistle tune ... The audience went with it and Martin told how he was able to experience the moment of change, since he already was in Germany at the time.
With the next two titles, "Einsamer Hirte" and "Merry Christmas Everybody", it was clear that the orchestra wanted to "get started" and the mood of the second half was announced.

First there was the break and a great raffle with crazy prizes. With, for example, Musical tickets for Kinky Boots.

After the break, the opening was as exciting as it was at the beginning. Then we went to new terrain with the title "Cheri Cheri Lady" by Modern Talking. This title was a wish of the trumpets and it was only played because the difficult solo was also conscientiously practiced.
The guests got again thinking tasks. Who composed the song? What is it's name? With "Cheri Cheri Lady" Martin got so many answers, the whole chocolate men he could not have thrown.
This was followed by the use of drummer Flo, who manages to make a hi-hat "to sing". The orchestra played "Stairway to heaven" by Led Zeppelin with a super solo by Flo and a crazy solo by Dieter on the electric guitar.
After this groovy title everyone had to come down with the quieter song "I Just Called", because the next solos were coming soon.

This time it was Max on the french horn and Christian on the piano's turn. The first 20 bars of "Feeling Good" they tuned the orchestra and the audience. Then the whole orchestra started and the "Big Band Sound" came through. Martin chatted that he had actually written the title for himself. However he also likes to inspire his students for new instruments. Actually Max plays the trumpet as the first instrument and has now learned to play on the french horn. Although everyone knew the title, no one in the audience knew the original composer "Nina Simone". Martin let the chocolate Santa fall on the floor disappointed ... but he was right back after everyone recognized the next song after only two played bars: "New York New York".

Slowly one wondered in the audience: When does Martin take the instrument himself? The moment had come with the next title. He serenaded the quiet title "This Guy's in Love With You."

At the end, it was thrilling again with two titles from the 80s! They played "When The Rain Begins To Fall" and "It's Raining Men".
With a quiet title we wanted to dismiss the audience in the third Advent. It was the appearance of the three gentlemen Fabian, Marvin and Paul. They were at the front of the stage playing the beginning of "Amazing Grace" on their clarinets.

Anyone who knows Woody's Sound, knows that the end was not quite there. Through the applause and standing ovations from the audience, we let ourselves be carried away by three encores. At the beginning Toccata came and Martin spoke again enthusiastically about the composition of this classic piece by Bach and here and there in the registers alludes to a few bars.
With "Freiheit" came again a beautiful solo from Martin and most would have liked to put the instrument away in the orchestra and listened to it!
The final end was then with "Mony Mony" and the last breath of the musicians was fired..

It was an impressive annual highlight and we would like to thank all spectators and supporters. Next year it continues. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

P.S. The first photos have already reached us from Peter Mahnke. Many Thanks!
